"Japanese Vase with Roses and Anemones" is one of Van Gogh’s most famous pieces and now as a paint by numbers kit. Like many of his famous paintings this one is influenced by his love of Japanese art. Using elements of Ukiyo-e prints Van Gogh used strong bold outlines and bright colours to capture the flowers.
As with his time in Arles the same period he painted the Starry Night his fascination with Japanese art was big influence. His style in "Japanese Vase with Roses and Anemones" is similar to that period, a mix of Western and Eastern art. The composition is a beautiful vase with roses and anemones. The colours are striking, reds, pinks and purples against a deep blue background. The thick brushstrokes give texture and dimension to the painting.
