Mountain Paint by Numbers

Distant peaks should stay lighter and softer than the foreground ranges. Preserving those mapped value differences creates atmospheric depth without extra blending.

Snowy peaks need their cool gray, blue, or violet shadow sections as much as the white paint. Those darker shapes define ridges and stop the snow from looking flat.

Wide compositions often suit mountain ranges because they show more horizon and surrounding scenery, but vertical designs can work well for tall peaks or valleys. Choose the composition rather than the format alone.
